EXPERIENCE THE BRITISH THEATRE WITH OCEAN COUNTY COLLEGE

TOMS RIVER Experience the sights and sounds of the British theater on Ocean County College’s 31st annual Theatre in London seminar/trip from January 6-18, 2010. Trip participants will see 10-12 spectacular plays at the famous Royal National Theater, the West End, and the Fringe…long before these productions come to America and hit Broadway! Members of the community are encouraged to participate. The registration deadline is October 8, 2009.

Theatre-lovers will participate in talk-back sessions with the actors, directors, playwrights and/or designers; enjoy a backstage tour of the Royal National Theatre; and take a day trip to Stratford-Upon-Avon to see “Arabian Nights” performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company. The trip also includes ample free time for museums, shopping, and sightseeing.

The seminar/trip leaders are Arthur Waldman, OCC Associate Professor of Humanities, and Gary Shaffer, OCC Assistant Professor of Humanities. Waldman designed and led the seminar for the past 31 years. He has directed more than 100 plays and has received the Perry Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of excellence in community theatre. Shaffer directs the college’s annual summer comedy and Curtain Call series of musicals, and works as a theater professional marketing for Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Las Vegas productions.

Each year, participants rave about this exciting trip. “Outstanding!” exclaimed Virginia Rich of Toms River. “The plays were excellent and the speakers were interesting and informative.”

Judy McGann of Toms River commented, “Kudos to Art for another excellent trip and another year of great plays and wonderful guest speakers. Art always manages to get an exceptional mix of plays and speakers.”

In addition, many participants have taken this trip more than once. “This was my 6th trip with the Theatre in London,” said Faith Roberts of Toms River. “The program has all the elements of an academic course plus the real experience of theatre at its best!”

The seminar/trip cost is $3,200* double occupancy (single room supplement $575) including round trip airfare; 11 nights accommodations; full English breakfast daily; theatre tickets; scheduled side tours and day trips; round trip airport transfers; most tips, taxes, OCC instruction, tuition, and fees. Not included: lunch and dinner, personal expenses, trip cancellation insurance, and anything not specifically listed above. (Out-of-county participant additional fee is $100.
